What is TETRA?

TETRA is an open standard for digital professional mobile radio (PMR).

Like GSM, the TETRA standard enables manufacturers to produce terminals that function in another manufacturer’s network. Unlike GSM, though, TETRA has been designed for authorities and other professionals.

Compatible products

All TETRA manufacturers are working to make their products compatible. This allows customers to purchase radios and infrastructure in an open and competitive market. Today, more than 15 manufacturers offer TETRA networks, TETRA radios, or both.

Many older PMR systems are becoming expensive to maintain. They can be replaced with TETRA, which:

  • Gives secure technology for both voice and data
  • Offers proven technology
  • Meets today’s demands while being future-proof.

TETRA can provide reliable communications

Emergency services require communication that is available even when other systems fail. TETRA can provide reliable communications in critical situations.

Inter-agency co-operation (interoperability) is possible with TETRA

With TETRA, different public safety organisations can communicate with each other, ensuring a speedy and co-ordinated response during incidents.

TETRA can meet the most demanding needs

EADS offers a full range of TETRA products. Designed to be extremely robust, these products come with duplicated hardware and built-in automatic recovery systems.
