ASMPA is destined to replace the ASMP (strategic and ultimate deterrent air-launched nuclear missile, for deployment by France’s strategic air forces and which can be carried under the Mirage 2000N). The planned transition scenario from ASMP to ASMPA will firstly see initial entry into service on the K3 standard of the Mirage 2000N and subsequently on the F3 standard Rafale.
Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missile ASRAAM is the most capable next generation air-to-air missile dedicated to within visual range combat and provides the pilot with a range of options not available with any other short range missile.
ASRAAM is in service with the RAF, and has already been deployed operationally.
ASRAAM entered service with the Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF) F/A-18 Hornet aircraft in August 2004. The Hornet is the first American-built fighter to be equipped with a European air-to-air missile.
The ASRAAM system concept and design engineering allows for significant growth potential to the missile's capability throughout its life, not only on the Tornado, Typhoon and F/A-18 but also for the future F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
A new generation of multi-purpose insensitive bombs Armed Forces have a requirement to enhance the expected performance in a variety of missions, ranging from penetration of hardened targets to fragmentation and blast of semi-hard targets. In may 1997 the DGA launched the BANG programme, with MBDA (previously Matra BAe Dynamics) and SNPE.
The MBDA solution
The BANG (new-generation navy aviation bombs/Bombe Aéronavale de Nouvelle Génération) family is a new generation of multipurpose insensitive bombs, which significantly extends the operational efficiency of air strikes, in particular when fitted with guidance kits (laser, INS/GPS).
There are two different classes, (BANG 125 kg and BANG 250 kg) which are fully interchangeable with Mk 81 and Mk 82 bombs, ordered by the Frech Official Services.
The BANG family is able to defeat a wide variety of targets from soft and semi-hardened to hardened targets. This is due to optimised calibrated fragmentation and blast, plus a high level penetration capability.
The BANG family has also been designed as an insensitive munition, according to MIL-STD 2105, so that it can be safely used and stored easily. Consequently, BANG is currently the most insensitive family of bombs available on the market.
The BANG family is compatible with various fuzes (eg. FMU 139, FMU 143, FEU 80). BANG has been in service since 2000 with the Frenc Navy on board the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.
New generation missile warning system for Rafale DDM is a totally passive missile detector, offering early detection, accurate angular resolution and easy integration with no RF compatibility problem.
METEOR is the next generation Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air missile (BVRAAM). METEOR offers a quantum leap in performance and will be the standard by which all other Air-to-Air missiles will be judged.
METEOR was ordered by the UK MoD and five other European nations (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden) to meet their future Air-to-Air requirements.
The METEOR contract which involved agreement by all six partner nations, was signed in December 2002. This agreement covers a fixed price contract for the development of METEOR, with production requirements being met on a nation by nation basis.
A full development programme, agreed by all six nations, is already in place and includes the key project milestones that will measure both progress and success. Development will be completed by 2010 followed by the introduction into service on Typhoon, Rafale and Gripen.
Multi-mission Air-to-Air missile system Fully passive or active, MICA is more efficient than any other existing advanced MRAAM. MICA is equipped with the most advanced features of tomorrow’s SRAAM.
More than 3,000 MICA missiles have been sold to five countries. Over 1,000 MICA RF (Radio Frequency) missiles are now in operational service on the Mirage 2000-5 aircraft delivered to Taiwan and Qatar as well as with the French Air Force's squadrons 1/2 "Cigogne" and 2/2 "Côte d'Or". The MICA RF is also in service with the French Navy on their Rafale aircraft on board the Charles-de-Gaulle aircraft carrier. MICA is the first air-to-air, multiple-target BVR missile available to the French Navy, allowing them to substantially increase their air superiority at sea. MICA IR is a full rate production and is due to be delivered to Mirage 2000 MK 2 and Rafale customers.
