Total annual revenues exceed € 2 billion, and the new company has orders worth approximately € 13 billion on its books. 18 December 2001: Eight European nations agree on A400M procurementAt a meeting of the NATO defence ministers in Brussels, France, the U.K., Germany, Turkey, Belgium, Portugal, Spain and Luxembourg have agreed to purchase a planned total of 196 A400M transport aircraft. The contracting parties are Airbus Military and the European Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation (OCCAR). This is the largest contract for EADS since the company’s formation, as well as the largest joint European procurement project to date. 13 December 2001: First flight of the Airbus A300-600 freighter versionThe first A300-600 converted freighter takes off from the EADS Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EADS EFW) in Dresden. During the Dubai Airshow 2001, Airbus and Emirates announce the placement of a firm order for 22 A380 aircraft, plus ten options. In the course of the year, an aviation services joint venture – in conjunction with the airline – is due to offer consultancy on fleet, route and business planning. 18 October 2001: EADS takes share in Finnish PatriaEADS acquires a 26.8% share in Finland’s Patria Industries Oyj. The purchase price is € 4.2 million. Three EADS executives will sit on the nine-member Board of Directors of the Finnish company. 17 October 2001: EADS CASA acquires 51% of the share capital of PZL Warsawa OkecieEADS CASA's acquisition of 51% of the share capital of PZL Warsawa Okecie marks an important step forward in the integration of Polish companies into the European industrial landscape. The share held by EADS CASA in PZL Warsawa Okecie is to rise to 85% by the end of 2003. The remaining 15% is to remain in the hands of the workforce. After merging into EADS, PZL Warsawa Okecie trades under the name EADS PZL. In addition to carrying out final assembly of the C-295 for Poland, EADS PZL also offers its own products, in particular for agricultural tasks (vermin control), and sports planes. 14 September 2001: North European decision in favour of NH90 military transport helicopterThe governments of Finland and Norway have decided to purchase the European military transport helicopter NH90. The two Nordic countries will place 34 firm orders and 10 options for the NH90. EADS is participating in the programme with a 62.5 percent share through its 100 percent subsidiary Eurocopter. The Swedish government placed an order for 25 NH90 helicopters on 26 September. 14 September 2001: Telecom Alliance between EADS and Nortel Networks redefinedEADS and Nortel Networks have entered into a series of agreements to realign their telecom activities. The Defence and Civil Systems Division is at the heart of this new structure. In the future, its business activities are to focus on the area of telecommunications. 29 August 2001: EADS CASA signs C-295 contract with PolandPoland's Ministry of Defence intends to replace its aging An-26 aircraft with eight C-295 transport aircraft from EADS CASA. The contract is worth a total of US$ 212 million. The aircraft are to be delivered from 2003 to 2005. 10 August 2001: Australian forces decide on TigerThe Australian government decides to purchase Eurocopter's combat helicopter Tiger. The contract is worth US$ 670 million and is for 22 aircraft. This is the first export order for the Tiger. EADS CEO Philippe Camus is elected President of the French aerospace industries association GIFAS (Groupement des industries françaises aéronautiques et spatiales) during the organisation’s annual general meeting. 23 May 2001: New ATR structureATR partners Finmeccanica/Alenia Aerospazio and EADS will merge the industrial activities of EADS ATR, the Italian company Alenia's engineering and procurement activities for the ATR programme and the commercial activities of the current ATR consortium. The goal is to extend operational autonomy. 16 May 2001: EADS Aeroframe Services officially openedThe new company EADS Aeroframe Services, LLC officially opens for business in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA. The joint venture between EADS (81%) and Northrop Grumman (19%) performs maintenance, repair, overhaul and paint services for all the Airbus aircraft operating in North and South America. 26 April 2001: Agreement signed to create MBDAEADS, BAE Systems and Finmeccanica combine the missile activities of their subsidiaries EADS Aerospatiale Matra Missiles, Matra BAE Dynamics and Alenia Marconi Systems. The Airbus A340-600, the longest version in the A340 family, successfully completes its first flight in Toulouse. It has newly developed wings and in the standard seating layout can carry 380 passengers over a range of 7,500 nm/13,900 km. 20 April 2001: EADS and Thales Nederland embark on joint ventureEADS and Thales Nederland B.V. (formerly Thompson CSF-Signaal) establish a naval combat systems company. The new 50-50 joint venture will consolidate the existing common programmes between the German and Dutch navies. 16 February 2001: Incoming orders and revenues increased in 2000The pro forma results for EADS in 2000 indicate a 50.8% increase in incoming orders, valued at € 49.3 billion.
