The internationally recognized centre of excellence for radar technology in Ulm currently employs 2000 highly committed people and focuses on the development, integration and production of systems for ground stations, ships and aircraft.
The focuses can be divided into the areas “Integrated Sensor Systems”, “Radar Systems”, “Microwave Factory” and “Command and Control Systems”.
The history of the Ulm Site started when Telefunken transferred pipework manufacture to Ulm in 1944. This history means that the basement in Building 5 of the EADS site houses a real gem: the radiotelegraphy museum of the former Telefunken plant! This has been lovingly developed by radio enthusiasts. Original technical equipment dating from the Telefunken era with particular focus on development and production at Ulm from 1951 is exhibited in the museum. Exhibits from the period starting in 1933 can also be seen here.
After numerous restructuring measures, a majority stake in the plant – then operating under the name of AEG – was acquired by Daimler-Benz in 1985. The Ulm Site then went through the organizational process experienced by almost all EADS sites and became part of what is today the world’s second biggest aerospace group in the summer of 2000.
