Khalifa Airways takes delivery of its first ATR 72-500

The Algerian airline Khalifa Airways, headquartered in Algiers, took delivery of its first ATR 72-500 yesterday. Khalifa Airways signed an agreement before the Farnborough Air Show for a total of 7 ATRs (4 second hand ATR 42-320s and 3 new generation ATR 72-500s).

To date, Khalifa Airways has taken delivery of 3 ATR 42-320s. The fourth ATR 42-320 as well as the second ATR 72-500 will be delivered at the end of October followed by the third ATR 72-500 in December 2000.

Khalifa Airways is ATR's first customer in Algeria.

Following the liberalisation of the Algerian airline industry, Khalifa Airways has become one of the most important private airlines in Algeria.

The ATR will allow Khalifa Airways to develop its domestic network as well as feed passenger traffic on its international destinations out of Algiers.

On its domestic network Khalifa Airways operates on 11 destinations out of Algiers (e.g. Oran, Annaba, Constantine, Bejaïa,…)

To date, ATR has delivered 607 ATRs (357 ATR 42s and 250 ATR 72s) to more than 100 operators in 65 countries.
