EADS EFW received A320 Fuselage for Training Purposes

Dresden, 10  October  2008

Today EADS Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW) received the fuselage of an Airbus A320 aircraft for training purposes. The aircraft bearing the manufacturer serial number (MSN) 004 has ended its inservice period for passenger services. As of the end of 2011 Airbus A320- family aircraft will be converted from passenger into freighter configuration.

The fuselage, coming from Toulouse, weighs about 25 metric tons and has been transported by the Airbus A300-600 ST transport aircraft „Beluga“, especially designed for transports between Airbus production sites. “With the fuselage we are able to test structural components, tools and procedures under close to reality conditions – important hands-on experience in this seminal project” said President and CEO of EFW, Dr. Andreas Sperl.

EFW, headquartered in Dresden, Germany, with a workforce of about 1,200 is the centre of competence for Airbus passenger to freighter conversion within EADS.
