In an ceremony at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London on November 16th, the Aerospace and Defence Group of Frost & Sullivan granted Eurocopter its 2006 Market Leadership Award for the company’s outstanding performance in the European military helicopter market, notably with the NH90. The state-of-the-art NH90 has become the 21st century reference helicopter in its class. The Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership Award is awarded in each region to the company which either is, or is assessed as likely to become, market dominant in the geographical region in question. According to Mr. Graham Cushway, Market Analyst at Frost & Sullivan, Eurocopter was selected for its self-evident position as Europe’s most successful helicopter manufacturer. With the NH90, which can be configured for a large variety of roles including tactical transport, Search and Rescue, Combat SAR, medevac, anti-submarine warfare and many others, Eurocopter possesses the most successful rotary-wing platform in Europe at the present time, which will remain unchallenged as the medium helicopter of choice over the period 2006- 2015.
In addition to the NH90, of which 400 units have been sold to date to twelve countries in Europe and elsewhere, and which has already been selected by two additional nations, Eurocopter has succeeded in producing a number of other highly successful airframes, which will remain influential over the period 2006-2015. For instance, the company is the supplier of the U.S. Army’s new Light Utility Helicopter. Eurocopter’s current high profile in the European military helicopter market, its R&D investment in new technologies and the likelihood that this will continue over the period 2006-2015, were key factors in Frost & Sullivan’s choice. Frost & Sullivan estimates the European market to be worth some $26 billion over the next ten years, the majority of which will be spent on procuring transport and other larger helicopters. With the NH90, but also with its other military platforms such as the EC725 and Cougar family, Eurocopter is well placed to be a major player in this market. The award was accepted on behalf of Eurocopter by Mr. Alain Brunello, Vice President Business Development and Offers - Governmental Helicopters. As Mr. Brunello stated, Eurocopter is extremely proud to have been chosen for this prestigious award by such a reputable and notably independent institution as Frost & Sullivan. “The NH90 is the result of European cooperation. We extend our thanks for this success to our partner companies in the NH90 programme, to our and our partners’ employees who devoted their best expertise and dedication to it, and to our many customers who have honoured us with their confidence and support”, said Mr. Brunello.
