The Agile UAV is a research and technology programme, fully titled as "Agile UAV within Network-Centric Environments" (Agile UAV-NCE). This programme of MAS is aiming for the analysis and refinement of enabling technologies and operational concepts of agile reconnaissance operations of a UAV. The Agile UAV-NCE programme is intended to be executed in subsequent phases and to run until 2013, covering both, demonstrations by simulation as well as by real flight tests. Main features are a risk-reduction process, the evaluation of key technologies, and the generation of operational concepts for future UAV systems within NCE. As a consequence, the most prominent tasks are the definition, simulation and demonstration of missions, of communication links and of platform control under NCE conditions. MAS, for this programme was awarded by the German Ministry of Defence (MoD) in December 2007.
The UAV technology-demonstrator Barracuda is contributed to the Agile UAV programme as flying testbed and therefore as an important part for the system’s demonstration.
